Geographical Information Systems Jobs

Geographical information systems (GIS) are computerized systems for the collection, storage, analysis, manipulation and presentation of complex geographical information, relevant to most sectors of government and commerce. Geographical information systems officers are involved in the production of data and analysis to help plan and deliver many different services in areas such as: healthcare; defense; construction; oil, gas, water, telecoms, electricity; the environment; local and central government; transport planning and operation; retail organizations; insurance and finance. Geographical information systems personnel are also involved in capturing location of 'assets' using GPS (global positioning system) tools in the field, e.g. location of bridges, street lights, road barriers, flood defenses and so on for private companies, government agencies and local authorities. Creating and maintaining the structures for GIS data storage is also a responsibility of geographical information systems professionals. A geographical information systems person creates programs to convert GIS information from one format to another, and is also responsible for providing SDE software for the conservation services, stewardship, and communications departments.
A bachelor's degree with significant course work in GIS is required for geographical information systems jobs. General knowledge of GIS terminology is required for geographical information systems. Strong written and verbal communication skills are preferred for geographical information systems jobs. Excellent computer skills are also preferred for geographical information systems jobs.

Top jobs are scattered on the websites of tens of thousands of companies, organizations and other job boards. This presents a difficult theoretical challenge that we help you overcome: By researching, structuring and logically ordering this tremendous variety of jobs in one place, we give you the ability to be resourceful and independently analyze your career options an efficient way. Other job sites are inefficient because they only show you jobs that employers are paying to post there. We actually go out and research jobs and do not accept any money from advertisers for job postings so that we can provide you with unbiased research about every job opening. We give you the resources to analyze your career options in a reserved, calm, independent and analytical manner. |

Back then, 20+ years ago, that was pretty good money for a janitor in Detroit. I could not believe my luck in... |
