Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of

Natural Resources at CSU. CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DOD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

A GIS Analyst position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands. This position is in support of conservation management activities on Fort and is located at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. The intent of this project is to manage and coordinate the activities for the Fort Wainwright Conservation GIS program. This support project will ensure that DPW Environmental has the network infrastructure, hardware, software, and data to provide customers with excellent geospatial analysis and products. This support will coordinate and prioritize work to develop and deliver GIS products to customers in the Environmental, Range and Installation Management communities. The objective of this project is to provide planning, technical and field assistance to the Conservation Branch in order to facilitate successful implementation of the natural and cultural resource management program. Assistance is required in the following areas: GIS technical support, data analysis, hardware and software maintenance, and input of field data. Collect and map natural resource data necessary for the sound management of military lands. This position will provide office GIS support for natural and cultural resources from data collection in the field, data processing and analysis, mapping and final product delivery up to Army data standards to ensure that Army-managed land is maintained in a condition to provide for optimal military training experiences and to protect soil, water, vegetation, and wildlife resources in a healthy and diverse state.

Required Job Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in Geography or Natural Resources with GIS emphasis or closely related field.

• More than 3 years of post-baccalaureate work experience in GIS.

• Demonstrated knowledge of ArcGIS software.

• Demonstrated project management experience.

• Must have or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license by employment start date.

• Must be able to comply with all applicable regulations to obtain a Common Access Card (CAC). Furthermore, candidates are required at a minimum to complete a NACI/SF85 and successfully pass a federal background check to remain eligible for employment by CSU.

Preferred Job Qualifications

• MA/MS degree in Geography or Natural Resources with GIS emphasis or closely related field.

• Demonstrated skills in GIS database development, ArcGIS Geodatabases, ArcGIS Spatial Database Engine (SDE) and Spatial Data Standard Facilities, Infrastructure and Environment (SDSFIE).

• Demonstrated experience working with GIS applications in natural resources management, digital cartography, and with the military.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Experience with GPS data collection in the field.

• Experience with Pathfinder software.
