The Williston team is looking for an experienced Geophysicist who will be responsible for analyzing the subsurface using a range of methods, including gravity, magnetic, electrical and seismic methods. This position collects and manages all geophysical data and is responsible for controlling the quality of the data collected and interpreting the data. As part of a multi-discipline team, this position will incorporate well data into geophysical subsurface analysis. This position is expected to perform as an individual contributor and assist in training lower level geologists/geophysicists. This position uses advanced techniques, procedures, and criteria for carrying out a sequence of extremely complex tasks. Other responsibilities include:
Conduct seismic mapping, mis-tie analysis, fault interpretation, synthetic to seismic tie, velocity model creation and depth conversion.
Manage the planning, design, acquistion and processing of company operated seismic or other geophysical programs including microseismic programs.
Work with petrophysicists, geophysicists, geologists, geotechs and engineers in integrating multiple data types into geophysical models and to search for relationships between well performance and geological/geophysical attributes.
Communicate with operations geologists and drilling/geosteering as needed before and during drilling.
Integrate structural framework, geological, and petrophysical data into geophysical subsurface analysis.
Provide geophysical support for an active drilling or exploration program.
Create and utilize pre-stack and post-stack geophysical attributes and analysis to assist in interpretation; build 1D and 2D synthetic models and log crossplots to evaulate seimic response from changing rock properties to predict viability of AVO, Inversion or multi-attribute analysis.
Evaluate completion risk based on mappable faults on 2D and 3D seismic and provide information to completions engineers.
Quality check seismic data for purchase and supervise the reprocessing of data including specialty products (i.e. inversion, HTI, VTI, AVO).
Monitor work plans while continuously updating them, keeping management apprised of activity.
10+ years as an industry geophysicist, 15+ years preferred
Excellent personal communication skills across disciplines, willingness to share information and work collaboratively
SMT Kingdom software required - strong proficiency desired
Experience in integrating geophysical and geologic data to map structural and stratigraphic changes
Knowledge/experience in the following areas a plus: Petra, horizontal wells/geosteering, seismic inversion, post-stack and pre-stack seismic attributes, microseismic, directing seismic acquisition and processing, and induced seismicity
Bachelor’s degree in geophysics, master’s degree preferred.
