DESCRIPTIONThe GIS Technician will perform data processing of roadway crashreports. You will leverage your knowledge of spatial fundamentals andtechnology to scan and file paper crash reports; review reports forconsistency, accuracy, proper location of crashes; perform data entry, andvalidate the entered data.
Most days will be spent in the Michael Baker International office reviewing crash reports to ensure completeness of all fields and to supplement missing information through deductive reasoning. You will review crash reports to ascertain the exact location for proper geocoding into the GIS-based records database. You will also review all crash reports to ascertain the exact sequence of events, collision type, crash severity, and causal factors. This task involves confirming or reclassifying certain uniform crash data elements for proper use in engineering analyses.
Additionally, you will perform comprehensive quality control checks of the crash data using the principles of inductive and deductive reasoning to identify and cleanse the crash data of illogical entries; perform data entry of the crash report into the database and later perform secondary data entry (data verification) of all written information and geocoding of all crash locations from crash reports; visually verify the location of the crash point inserted on the map. If the location needs to be modified, you will set the new location.

You\u2019ll need a High School Diploma or GED and 0 to 1 years of experience with geographic concepts and/or GIS software. Experience with data entry of crash reports is preferred.
To be successful, you\u2019ll need to be bright, organized, determined, reliable, productive, meticulous, accurate, and able to review and correct your own work.
Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to long term success in this role.
You\u2019ll need to be able to quickly get up to speed on our policy, procedures and relevant software.
Naturally, you\u2019ll absolutely need excellent computer skills data entry software as well as Microsoft Office.
It would be a plus if you already also have proficiency with data entry or crash reporting software.
