Homeland Security Solutions Inc. (HSSI), a law enforcement and security services firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) Specialist to support the Navy mission assurance program. This position will primarily support the execution of Department of Navy mission analysis and mission assurance assessments at Department of Navy (including Marine Corps) Installations and Operational (Fleet/MEF) Commands worldwide by providing GIS data to support analyses, briefings, and assessment reports.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Accessing government, military and commercial sources of authoritative geospatial installation data as well as regional geospatial data surrounding military installations
Extracting, manipulating and utilizing GIS data files and repositories to support integration into assessment briefings and reports
Collecting, maintaining, and integrating geospatial data to include data and analyses related to specific regions of the world. Regions can be defined as an installation, city, country, a continent, or other areas of the earth's surface with specified boundaries
Providing tailored geospatial products within short timeframes
Supervision of personnel when required
Other duties as assigned.
Demonstrated strong working knowledge of ESRI GIS software and extensions and NGA, DOD, Federal, and Commercial data sources, standards, and models.
Experience with ArcGIS and a subset of application tools
At least 6 years of experience using Geospatial Information Systems.
Experience defining data parameters for geospatial projects, using advanced analytical techniques to resolve geospatial data digitalization challenges
Experience with geospatial data (SHP, KML, GeoJSON) as well as OGC standards (WMS, WFS)
Experience with creating shapefiles, geodatabases, and features
Experience with topographic feature data extraction and attribution across a variety of scales and product specifications
Working knowledge of the application of geospatial technologies throughout DoD or the Intelligence Community
Experience performing quality control on GIS reporting and geospatial products for accuracy, readability, and relevance
The position allows work from any location, but requires the ability to travel approximately 35-40 percent of the time
Bachelors in geography, computer science, surveying engineering, forestry or earth science.
Masters in geography, computer science, surveying engineering, forestry, or earth science.
Experience supporting Combatant Commands (COCOMs), Military Departments or Combat Support Agencies with digital cartographic products
Excellent command of oral and written English language
