Salary: Denver: $112,133 (Step 01) to $145,772 (Step 10); or Rolla: $103,106 (Step 01) to $134,038 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01. This is an interdisciplinary position that can be filled as a Geographer GS-0150 or Cartographer GS-1370. This vacancy is being advertised concurrently with the following announcements: Open to current or former Federal employees: DEN-2018-0321 Responsibilities As the Deputy of Operations within the National Geospatial Technical Operations Center, some of your specific duties will include: Provide long-range planning for the organization, budget allocation, new equipment, and changes in program.Review developments in state-of-the-art geospatial data acquisition methods, procedures, and equipment, for the purpose of increasing efficiency, reducing costs, and improving the quality of products.Hear and resolve complaints and grievances not resolved at the lower level, and support disciplinary measures ranging from warnings and reprimands to termination.Responsible for ensuring performance plans and evaluations prepared in accordance with established guidelines and by established deadlines for all personnel.Provides guidance to Section Chiefs for scientific, engineering, and administrative matters pertaining to the acquisition, assessment, and integration of geospatial data in support of The National Map, development of national standards and data models to support geospatial data programs, and providing technical assistance to USGS Geospatial Liaisons. Qualifications For information on basic qualifications, which includes information on whether you may substitute education for specialized experience, please click on the following: Geographer: Cartographer: In addition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service. Examples include: leading geospatial investigations and developing new approaches and applications; implement geospatial approaches and applications to meet targeted goals and objectives; project/ production management of a cartographic or geographic program including long-range planning, new equipment justification, revision of organization, budget allocations, and changes in program emphasis; employee supervision of production teams including identifying problems, opportunities, and recommending courses of action; lead technical teams and collaborate with other stakeholders in order to meet or exceed defined requirements.You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.
