Expressed in our ability to treat every one of our 1,200 employees as a professional, RK&K has received countless recognition for its exceptional and unique workplace culture. \r \rJOB DESCRIPTION \r \rSummary: \r \rRK&K is seeking a motivated, entry to mid-level geologist for the Baltimore, Maryland office to assist on a wide range of challenging transportation, rail and environmental projects including highway and rail bridges, buildings, tunnels, freight and passenger rail, slopes, highways, ground treatment of soft soils and subgrades, and pipelines. This is an excellent opportunity to learn from our senior staff, and gain a wide range of experience. \r \rPrimary Responsibilities: \r \rThe primary duties of the Engineering Geologist is to assist geotechnical engineers with developing an understanding of, and characterizing, subsurface conditions for transportation and environmental projects. This work includes: \r \r\r - The ability to characterize the site though field reconnaissance and mapping of geological and geotechnical features as they affect existing and proposed engineered features; \r - Perform surveillance of drilling operations, including logging and classifying soil and rock materials in accordance with applicable logging standards; \r - Create drilling logs and geological cross sections, profiles, and maps necessary to convey the subsurface exploration results; \r - Perform selected analyses of engineering performance studies (with supervision); \r - Write technical letters, technical memoranda, and briefs of findings, \r - Assist engineering staff with preparation of geotechnical engineering reports and proposals. \r - Perform calculations for slope stability, bearing capacity and settlements of shallow and deep foundations and retaining wall design \r - May need to assist with Hazmat geologists and scientists as needed. \r - Maintain gINT database and integrate with GIS or other web-based geo-locating systems. \r\rQualifications: \r \r\r - Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Engineering Geology, MS Degree preferred. \r - Ability to obtain GIT or EIT within 1 year and both within 2 years \r - 0 to 4 years of practical geological experience. \r - Experience with gINT, GIS or other geo-based database management system preferred \r - Excellent verbal and written communication skills; \r - Willingness to travel on temporary assignments as needed; \r - Must have a valid driver's license and ability to perform field work on active construction sites year-round without restrictions, and in inclement weather if required. \r\r \rOther Duties: \r \rPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
