SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Engineer Survey Technology & Geomatics, this position provides office and field support to AMTRAK field surveying crews. Surveying crews perform calculations, measurement of points, elevations, lines, areas and contours for design, construction or other purposes.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

*Assist in the preparation of field surveying information/data packages including data collector transfers, data analysis and entry into preformatted spreadsheets, coordinate lists and worksheet plotting. *Assists the Sr. Engineer and Land Surveyors to obtain the necessary reference information required for the successful completion of assigned projects and tasks. *Use company office/civil/survey software for in support of track designs; layout calculations in support of track construction and renewal; record surveys of completed work; boundary line surveys along the railroad right of way. *Prepare survey exhibits and drawings using company cad software and standards. *Assist the Principal Engineer Survey Technology & Geomatics, Sr. Engineer and Land Surveyors with final plots and other project deliverables.  *Assist the Principal Engineer Survey Technology & Geomatics, Sr. Engineer and Land Surveyors with organization and maintenance of project files, field work and field folders.  *It is also the responsibility of this position to cross-function as a field surveyor in the event additional field personnel are required to perform surveying activities.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Prior satisfactory job performance.

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE:

*2 years experience in civil engineering and/or land surveying. *Experience in using Microstation CADD software and Microsoft Office Suite. *Candidate must be in good physical condition and pass a pre-employment physical exam.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

*Must be actively pursuing a degree in Land Surveying or Civil Engineering at an accredited educational institution. *Must have completed 1 year of college. *Basic knowledge of modern surveying equipment such as electronic total stations, laser scanners, automatic levels and electronic data collectors. *Basic knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in work processing, spreadsheets and database software. *Must become qualified in RWP and AMT2. *Valid driver's license.  *Basic knowledge of the operation and use of survey instruments, data collection devices and personal computer office programs.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: 

Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
