Responsible for assisting in implementing projects and defined tasks for the Project Management Department in support of the District’s mission to design, build and maintain the Infrastructure while concurrently acquiring the basic technical engineering skills with increasing levels of responsibility to become a professional engineer.
Manage well defined small projects or small tasks within a larger project.
Acquire basic technical engineering skills in the field of hydrology and hydraulics with increasing levels of responsibility to ensure preparedness to become a professional engineer.
Work at all times under the supervision of a registered engineer.
Work on assigned projects or tasks with approved scopes, schedules and budgets.
Perform engineering tasks required to design flood reduction projects.
Prepare portions of the final project documentation.
Make limited judgments regarding projects or tasks that could affect scopes, schedules and budgets.
Proactively seek out technical guidance to ensure that tasks are completed within allocated scope, schedule and budget.
Learn and ultimately become proficient with fundamental project management tools and techniques including effective scoping, scheduling and budgeting.
Participate in public engagement process by assisting in preparation for public meetings, assisting with preparing technical presentations with creation of Power Point slides and graphics and attending District public presentations.
Promote client satisfaction to internal and external clients.
Advise management of problems and prepare recommendations for solutions using best practices.
Prepare correspondence, complete forms and maintain records and files related to work activities.
Assist with department projects, as needed.
Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.
Education & Experience:
Requires a minimum of a Bachelor degree from an accredited four-year college or university in civil engineering.
Requires Engineer in Training certification within six months of employment.
Requires knowledge of construction standards, practices and techniques.
Requires good verbal and written communication skills.
Prefer Certified Floodplain Manager Certification.
Prefer minimum one year verifiable experience in civil engineering related work.
Prefer experience with GIS applications.
Prefer experience using 2D and 3D Computer-aided Design (CAD) software.
Prefer basic understanding of project management tools and systems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time:
Work is generally performed indoors in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, air conditions and noise levels.
When at field locations, may be exposed to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, wind and dust, wildlife and flying/walking insects, vibration and/or noise in excess of 85 decibels.
