WSP is currently initiating a search for a Mid-level Hydrogeologist/Geologist/Geological Engineer
for our Rapid City , SD
office. WSP’s Geoscience Professionals embrace the opportunity to conduct a wide range of field characterization techniques and office activities as part of our contaminated land and water supply teams, with safety as our top priority.
The successful candidate will have proven experience in the following areas:
Document field data activities and observations in a clear and organized manner utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment and workspace monitoring equipment
Standard field sampling procedures for various environmental media (soil, groundwater, soil gas, surface water, sediment, and air)
USCS soil classification methods
Coordinate field activities and schedules with property/facility owner/operators in a clear, professional manner
Oversight of drilling methods relevant to unconsolidated and consolidated materials
Proper monitoring, injection, and recovery well design, installation, and well development
Aquifer testing design and supervision
Utilize Trimble GPS to document site and sample locations and conditions
Appropriate management of investigation-derived waste, including containerization, storage, labeling, and characterization.
Supervise and direct various contractors while conducting environmental site investigation and remediation work
Analysis and Reporting:
Prepare health and safety plans
Prepare bid requests and assist with subcontractor selection, contracting and coordination
Analyze, evaluate, and interpret field and analytical data obtained during field investigations
Prepare boring logs, data tables, contour maps, hydrographs, cross sections, and other site figures to present results of field activities
Use ArcGIS to process, analyze, and visualize data
Apply technical writing skills to investigation and monitoring results
Prepare proposals and work plans
Must have a working knowledge and understanding of federal and state regulations applicable to environmental site investigation and remediation projects.

Education and Training Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree in geology/earth sciences or related discipline with 4 to 6 years of experience. Master of Science degree in geology/earth sciences preferred.
Geologist-in-Training or Professional Geologist certification
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Training
Valid US driver’s license required
Proficiency in ArcGIS preferred.
Other certifications desired: DOT Training, IATA Training, CPR and First Aid Training
Knowledge of common contaminants (e.g., petroleum compounds, chlorinated solvents, PCBs, heavy metals) and understanding of contaminant transport and fate mechanisms in soil, groundwater, and soil gas.
Working knowledge of remediation methods (e.g., pump and treat, air sparge/soil vapor extraction, amendment injection)
Familiarity with site characterization methods, including direct sampling and geophysical techniques
Familiarity with basic groundwater flow concepts and equations.
Ability to work overtime (as needed) in both office and field, and travel up to 40% of the time
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in rough terrain.
Overnight travel is required. Must be able to drive or travel via air to field sites.
Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a project team
Ability and willingness to mentor junior staff
Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
Self-sufficiency and ability to work under pressure of deadlines
Manage time and effort effectively in accordance with project priorities
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Experience with industry standard software packages, such as Surfer, gINT, and AQTESOLV®, contaminant screening models, and groundwater flow models, is preferred.
Conducting Phase I Environmental Site Assessments following ASTM International Standard E 1527-13 is preferred
