GIS Government Jobs description

A GIS government professional is responsible for the implementation and continual maintenance of a town’s information system including network and GIS information technology. A GIS government person oversees and participates in the conversion of all electronic and paper-based records onto the information system. A GIS government official maintains regular, daily contact with personnel and offices throughout a town as time and schedule permits, answering questions, solving problems, providing training, implementing and supporting applications from vendors; and developing, implementing and supporting applications utilized by the town’s staff. A GIS government person evaluates need for information technology on ongoing basis and designs or implements uses of information technology in response to the needs of users in various offices throughout the town; coordinates all services throughout the town related to information technology. A GIS government person provides major input into the town’s information technology procurement; creates policies with the town coordinator directly relating to the use of the information system and updates/revises as necessary. A GIS government person has principal responsibility for the implementation and support of all packaged applications licensed from vendors. A GIS government person assures that all daily, weekly, and other production schedules are met in a time and accurate manner.
A bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, or related field is preferred for a GIS government job. Experience of at least 3 years is required for a GIS government job. A GIS government person must have the ability to provide training to employees on a wide variety of computer software and hardware. Ability to establish and maintain effective communication, both oral and written, with all classes of employees, public officials, vendors, and others inside and outside town government as required is also preferred for GIS government jobs.
