GIS Manager Jobs

A GIS manager’s job requires to plan, direct, co-ordinate, implement, and manage central geographic information systems. A GIS manager act as ordnance survey authority liaison officer for the county council, including responsibility for the local land and property and street gazetteers. They are responsible to manage and maintain corporate spatial datasets, including ordnance survey and other digital mapping, aerial photography and other remote sensing data. A GIS manager advises the county council, on the specification, design, acquisition, operation, management, support, and maintenance of major GIS systems and data, and identifies opportunities and priorities, and develops solutions and programmers involving the application of GIS across county council and its partners. A GIS manager has to prepare project implementation roadmap, database design, map conversions, data capturing, and process designs, handling of outsourcing contracts for GIS project, quality assurance and/ quality control.
A GIS manager requires a bachelor’s degree and extensive knowledge and experience in the application and development of geographical information systems. Experience of MapInfo and ESRI Arc products is essential. A GIS manager should possess an extensive high-level language programming knowledge and experience of Microsoft server and desktop operating systems. A GIS manager should have a degree or equivalent qualification, preferably in the field of computing or GIS. A GIS manager should have substantial experience in the management of products or staff. A GIS manager must be able and willing to work across disciplinary boundaries with representatives from a range of different public and voluntary organizations.
