GIS Digitizer Jobs

A GIS digitizer performs digital data revisions and updates from appropriate sources for maintenance of various GIS coverage’s and databases utilizing Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) GIS suite of software. A GIS digitizer plans, develops, coordinates and modifies systems to create and maintain a comprehensive GIS. A GIS digitizer designs and develops methods which allow existing relational databases in other systems to interface with the city’s GIS. A GIS digitizer provides prompt and courteous service for all internal and external entities public or private for GIS information requests. A GIS digitizer translates user requests into methods and procedures for generating cartographic products. A GIS digitizer utilizes GIS software to prepare and maintain a wide range of cartographic layouts for use by city staff; maintain fluency in GIS software, professional practices, and techniques. A GIS digitizer assembles maps and other source materials and prepares them for digitizing by verifying information and marking for data entry. A GIS digitizer develops and maintains procedure manuals, metadata, specifications, and other continuity documentation for GIS, AutoCAD and Engineering Division.
An associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year college or technical institution with a major in GIS or an associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year college or technical institution with a major in computer science, geography, drafting technology, computer programming, or a closely related field with a GIS certificate is preferred for a GIS digitizer job. Communication skills are also important for a GIS digitizer job. Excellent computer skills are also required for.
