Federal GIS Jobs

A federal GIS meets with users to perform system analysis of the geographic information requirements and prepares reports of such findings. A federal GIS coordinates with other staff for databases, which need to be linked to spatial data coverage and with other GIS staff. A federal GIS remains current with evolving federal and state standards for GIS and insures compliance in GIS consulting engagements. A federal GIS utilizes GIS software to perform spatial analysis for projects as assigned. A federal GIS participates in beta evaluation of new GIS software, new releases of existing software and problem analysis. A federal GIS creates metadata and works with user data providers to generate appropriate metadata. A federal GIS teaches staff and clients new or changed aspects of new software releases or new software packages for GIS. A federal GIS perform research into emerging GIS technologies perform field data collection using prescribed technology, methodology and specifications.
A bachelor's degree with significant course work in GIS is required for a federal GIS job. Excellent computer skills especially in databases, electronic spreadsheets, Microsoft project, Word, PowerPoint is preferred for a federal GIS job. Oral communication skills are also preferred for a federal GIS job. A federal GIS must have ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, clients, and customers.
