Environmental GIS Jobs
An environmental GIS is responsible for the implementation of GIS technology to public works and environmental projects. An environmental GIS assists in the development of project study needs, scopes, and methodologies. An environmental GIS identifies data sources and appropriate contacts for information and collaboration. An environmental GIS research and analyze local, regional, or sub regional conditions and policy needs, for preparation of environmental resource inventories, open space and farmland preservation plans, ordinances, regional greenway plans or other management tools. An environmental GIS compile and integrate data for the preparation of maps using environmental GIS, charts, and graphics for use as working tools and for presentation. An environmental GIS assists with the coordination of advisory and steering committees for the preparation of studies and plans. An environmental GIS prepares written text for reports and plans and present study and research results to public and private sector representatives. An environmental GIS support and maintain regional environmental GIS data library.
A master’s degree is required for environmental GIS job. Knowledge of the principles,
practices and objectives of community and regional planning and principles of smart growth is also preffered for enviromental GIS job. Ability to independently secure and analyze facts through research, interviewing and investigation is also preferred for environmental GIS job. An equivalent combination of education and professional experience in a discipline applicable to environmental GIS job planning is considered.
