This is a multi-graded position. There are 5 steps in the GIS Technician progression. Salary is based on the experience/skills and education of the successful applicant. SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (OVERTIME, IRREGULAR HOURS, TRAVEL, ETC.) This position provides GIS and drafting support to Transmission Engineering related to the support, configuration, data administration, enhancement, and testing of GIS (Geographic Information System)and related systems used by Energy Delivery. Position is responsible for creating and maintaining AutoCAD and MicroStation drawings and updating GIS data for the engineering and construction of transmission facilities. Responsible for creating standard to complex drawings including construction prints, schematics, one-line diagrams, and system maps. Work includes quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) of GIS and mapping data to ensure that as-built information from the field, circuit continuity, and equipment and spatial information is correct. Work also includes maintenance and updates to land base information in the GIS and drafting of work requests, permits and other drawings. Position works closely with end-users and IT technical staff. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: Level 1: An appropriate four year college degree* from an approved college by TECO Education policy. OR Two (2) years of related work experience* plus a two year appropriate degree* from an approved school by TECO Education policy. OR Four (4) years related work experience* plus a valid highschool diploma. *Appropriate degree includes degrees such as Drafting or Geography. *Work experience must be related to skills and knowledge requirements. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED: Must have demonstrated skills in land base, mapping, schematic drafting, and GIS concepts and principles. Should also have demonstrated skills in work order concepts. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES PREFERRED: Knowledge of electric utility mapping and construction practices is highly desirable. Knowledge of the following specific applications is also highly desirable: Intergraph's G/Technology GIS, AutoCAD and/or Bentley's MicroStation CAD application, and Logica's WorkSuite work management system (Tampa Electric's WORKPro). Knowledge of other GIS systems (e.g. ESRI) is also helpful, as is knowledge of other electric utility applications (e.g. Work Management, Outage Management, and other systems). Level II: One (1) year of related work experience* plus an appropriate four year college degree* from an approved college by TECO Education policy. OR Three (3) years of related work experience* plus a two year appropriate degree* from an approved school by TECO Education policy. OR Five (5) years related work experience* plus a valid highschool diploma. *Appropriate degree includes degrees such as Drafting or Geography. *Work experience must be related to skills and knowledge requirements. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: -Apply GIS and mapping skills to complex work requests. -Perform QA/QC of GIS and mapping data on complex work requests. -Perform basic spatial analyses; analyze information generated by the GIS in the form of maps, displays, reports, and queries. ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES PREFERRED: Knowledge of spatial analysis techniques is highly desirable.
